Semester 1: Principles of Design - Greeting Cards (Final Assignment)

I regret for not posting the final post for Principles of Design or else my grade wouldn't be so bad but oh well it already past.

But! I'm still going to post it just because to make my blog more lively. Moreover, easier for my juniors to basically read through my blog posts.

Anyhow, on the last weeks of semester 1, we were given our final assignment and were asked to do 5 set of greeting cards. Miss Lisa asked us to sketch minimum 6 themes to show it to her so we can narrow it down to just 1 theme. For mine I chose the theme vintage clothing.

Here are my other idea sketches;

*to be uploaded by this week*

After choosing a theme, we were then asked to create 5 different celebration and use the theme as our design.

I chose;

  1. Happy Halloween
  2. Valentine's Day
  3. Graduation Day
  4. Baby Shower
  5. Mother's Day
Here are my final work;

[23/7/2013] Contextual Studies: Understanding the Word "Noir".

Mr. Charles gave us a task to describe the word noir.

Frankly speaking, I'm still quite confused with the word noir. Nevertheless, I'll try my best to describe the word.

Definition:

According to thefreedictionary.com

Noir;

  • a genre of crime literature featuring tough, cynical characters and bleak settings.
  • or just film noir.

In French, it literally means black.

It is mostly used in cinematic term to describe stylish crime dramas, emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. Basically it is short for black in relation to those gore but not really gore situation. They said film noir's aesthetics were very deeply influence by German Expressionism during the 1940's-1950's era. Since noir means black, their film are all associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style. It was emerged in the United States during the Great Depression. In 1940's-1950's era, film noir are described as "melodrama".

Some examples of film noir;
  • Stranger on the Third Floor (1940)
  • Notorious (1946)
  • The Wrong Man (1956)
  • Bewitched (1945)
  • On Dangerous Ground (1952)

[23/7/2013] Contextual Studies: About Me.

now playing: SHINee - Love Like Oxygen.

Hi /bows.
I don't have to introduce myself anymore since most of my classmates and lecturers knows me. I'm just here to say about myself in a "creative" way.

I may seem quiet to most of you guys but once you get to know me I'm as loud as a crow. Of course I have my own limitations, I can be REALLY loud and REALLY quiet. Maybe that is just my charms ;) I still don't know why I chose this design course. Frankly speaking, this wasn't my first choice, my first choice was Biotechnology but since I wasn't a Science student in high school, I somehow gave up. After that, I took interest in writing, so I was thinking Journalism. I started practising my writings by doing journals everyday. One day, while I was building an interior space for our computer lab in school using 3D Max software. I was the very first few to finish early that time, so then all my friends were like "hey you should do interior design. It should be good for you". Ever since they said that to me, I kept looking at my work and started to research about interior designing and I got very interested in it. Hence, me choosing Foundation in Design. Moreover, I think I have fetish for vintage stuff. I sometimes go overboard with it, like I'll tend to buy vintage stuffs when I could. The other day, I bought a polaroid camera but the modern version one of course (it's cheaper hehe), I was so into it, I kept touching it. I couldn't take a lot of pictures since I have to save the films as films are really expensive. Sadly, it got stolen buy 2 bastards (excuse my language) on a motorcycle. I got snatched on the last day of semester 1 (I was one of the unlucky ones) and injured myself. I'm still traumatized by that incident. Anyhow, I have this dream of buying an old type writer and put it in my own house when I have the money to buy it :D What keeps me going is music. I'm one of those girls who listen to, well you guessed it, Korean pop! BUT! Of course, I listen to American music but I am more to Korean music. Listening to these kind of music gives me confidence. I specially love listening to Korean Indie bands. It gives me these calm feels as if you're living somewhere far where there's no one to ruin the moment for you. Korean Hip-Hop music gives me the dancing vibe. It keeps me happy and makes me keep moving forward. CATS! I LOVE CATS! WHO DOESN'T RIGHT?! Oh boy do I love CATS! Just give me any type of cat, male, female, kitten, you name it and I'll be playing with them like nobody's business. I, myself, have 5 cats. All of them are there to keep me happy especially my own personal cat who is always ALWAYS in my room, sleeping....... but she is the one that always there to accompany me when I'm lonely most of the time.

Well I'm guessing that's it then? I don't know how this is "Creative", really. But I tried my best. Well I'll promise to work hard in what I do.

Thank you.

F.
